Cats With Folded Ears
It is of vital importance that a cat with folded ears is only mated with a cat with normal ears.
Cats with folded ears. This breed of cat was named Scottish Folded in the year 1966. Foldexes are medium-sized cats with a rounded face short legs and folded ears. By 11 to 12 weeks breeders will know for sure if the Scottish Folds quality is a pet breeder or show cat with only cats with folded ears allowed in.
Cats that have two copies of the gene that produces folded ears can have severe health problems including crippling arthritis at a young age. Scottish Fold cats have really small ears that bend forward and down towards the front of their head with rounded ear tips. The Oriental is a large-eared cat breed which has a wedge-shaped head.
These cats are healthy cats with a lifespan of 12 years. Cats with folded ears have been reported in the Hebrides Germany and Belgium but were apparently regarded as no more than isolated curiosities and not bred. Their ears will fold at three to four weeks.
It can also occur due to damage caused by longterm exposure to the sun. Folded ear cats were originally called as lop-eared named after the lop-eared rabbit. The Scottish Fold is a breed of domestic cat with a natural dominant-gene mutation that affects cartilage throughout the body causing the ears to fold bending forward and down towards the front of the head which gives the cat what is often described as an owl-like appearance.
There is one exception. These cats are not bred due to ethical concerns. Folded ear tips in cats are usually associated with the longterm use of anti-inflammatory steroid drugs usually in the form of daily eye or ear medications.
The only widely recognised fold-eared cat is the Scottish Fold and its longhaired version the Highland Fold Coupari. The Foldex cat also known as the Exotic Fold is a rare breed of cat developed in the Canadian province of QuebecCurrently the breed is recognized by only one cat registry the Canadian Cat Association.
